A man was found dead inside a burnt out car on the Pune Expressway Tumakuru district in Karnataka, while a woman traveling with him, said to be his ex-girlfriend, sustained minor injuries.

Tumakuru Superintendent of Police Ashok Venkat told news agency ANI on Sunday that police received information about a car that caught fire within the jurisdiction of Kalambila police station.
The official added that upon arriving at the scene, police officers found the charred body of a man. The deceased was identified as Nagendran, and the car was said to be running with a yellow commercial number plate, indicating that it was a hired taxi.
“We received information about a car on fire at Kalambila police station on Pune Expressway. When the local police reached the spot, they found a burnt car (yellow number plate) and the body of a person named Nagendran burnt inside the car. When we inquired about the incident, we found that the driver of the car and the passenger of the deceased Rania were involved,” he said.
Plot to die together?
According to a report by India Today, during the taxi ride, Nagendra allegedly threatened to kill Rania, who was his ex-girlfriend and with whom he had fallen out over personal differences. The report added that he also threatened to commit suicide and carried a weapon An explosive device, and he reportedly showed it to her in the cabin.
It is also reported that the deceased forcefully took the girl with him, after which her parents filed a kidnapping complaint at the Jayanagar police station in Bengaluru.
Tumakuru SP confirmed the relationship angle with ANI and said that Nagendra attacked the girl with a knife inside the car, but the car stopped, giving the girl a chance to jump out of it to safety. But shortly after, the car caught fire.
The service provider said: “The deceased and Rania were in a relationship, and due to some problems in the relationship, a dispute occurred between them. A case of kidnapping had already been registered at the local police station. Due to the ongoing dispute between the boy and the girl, he stopped the car. As soon as the car was stopped, they started fighting, after which the car caught fire.”
But the police said that the exact cause of the fire and the sequence of events that led to the accident have not yet been determined.
He added: “The cause of the fire and the sequence of events must be investigated. Once the causes are determined, we will continue to conduct further investigations. She sustained injuries to her head and arm, both superficial and not serious. She was treated and is ready to be discharged from the hospital.”
