A 29-year-old software employee was murdered by her ex-husband at her home here on Wednesday, police said.

The victim’s husband stated in the complaint that his wife is in her third month of pregnancy.
However, police said this has not been confirmed yet pending the forensic report.
The accused, who is in his 30s and had previously worked as a software employee in Canada, broke into the victim’s house and after noticing her in a room he locked it from the inside and allegedly stabbed her several times in the head with a knife, which led to her instant death.
The woman’s mother-in-law was present on the balcony of the house at the time of the accident.
After informing her family members and neighbors, the police arrived at the scene and found that the accused had poured gasoline in the room, brought it with him in a can, and locked himself in the bathroom.
A police official said that he threatened to set fire to the room using a lighter he was carrying, and after police officials convinced him, he came out of the bathroom and was detained.
The couple married in 2022 and divorced in 2024. She married again in April 2025, police said.
Based on preliminary investigations, the police said that the accused was holding a grudge against his ex-wife when she filed a domestic violence case against him.
The police said that after their marriage in India, the accused went to Canada, and the deceased later joined him there.

They said: “Some disputes arose between the spouses and after she stayed with him for five days, she then returned to India and subsequently filed a domestic violence case against him in the state of Maharashtra.”
A police official said that the accused came to India from Canada in March 2025 after the death of his mother.
He was issued a warning notice in connection with the case and his passport was suspended. He has not been able to return to Canada since then and is currently residing in his native place in Peddapalli district in Telangana, without any work.
The accused felt that he and his family were facing psychological suffering because of this case. Police said he also felt his mother’s death was due to mental anguish caused by his estranged wife.
The police said that the accused had a grudge against her and decided to eliminate her. He was able to locate her residence address through her social media account and came to Hyderabad two months ago and stayed in a hostel.
He also recently “repossessed” the victim’s apartment.
According to his plan, he came to the apartment on Wednesday with a bag containing knives, a drilling machine and a can containing five liters of petrol among other things.
Surveillance camera footage broadcast by local television channels showed the man carrying a bag and walking down the apartment’s corridor.
