A massive fire broke out in a pipeline carrying naphtha at an oil refinery in West Bengal’s Haldia district on Tuesday, injuring at least 20 people. A senior police officer in East Midnapore district told HT that the fire broke out early in the morning, and six of the injured are in critical condition and are being shifted to a hospital in Kolkata.

Haldia Petrochemicals Limited (HPL) confirmed the incident and said the incident may have occurred near an unauthorized naphtha theft point located in the vicinity of the plant.
“Naptha is a highly flammable and highly flammable hydrocarbon, and the company has continuously warned local communities against any unauthorized access to or handling of petroleum products due to the serious safety risks involved,” HPL’s statement said.
