She added that the accused was found sitting next to the victim’s body in a drunken state, and he was immediately arrested.

According to police, the incident came to light late on Saturday night after receiving a PCR call regarding a murder in Fatehpur Beri.

The caller told police that two men were drinking in an open space when an argument broke out, after which one allegedly choked the other.

The police said that a police team rushed to the scene and found the body of a man lying in the empty field with a thin white towel tied around his neck.

The deceased has been identified as Arvind, 35.

Police also found the accused, identified as Manoj Kumar, 25, in a drunken state at the scene, officials said.

Witness Roshan told police that he saw the two men fighting shortly before the incident.

During investigation, the police found that Manoj had given Arvind $500 for a work assignment. However, police said Arvind did not complete the work and did not return the money, which led to the dispute.

The argument escalated while the two were drinking, and Manoj allegedly used a ‘gamcha’ to strangle Arvind to death, they said.

Criminology and Forensic Sciences Laboratory teams were called to the scene to collect evidence.

During interrogation, Manoj, a laborer by profession, confessed to committing the murder, police said.

The body was transferred for autopsy, and the accused was arrested.

Police added that further investigations are underway.
