The arrest was made in Delhi on Saturday after extensive surveillance, intelligence development, coordinated inter-state coordination and sustained follow-up operations by the National Central Bureau in its ongoing crackdown on transnational drug trafficking networks operating along the Indo-Myanmar border.

The accused, identified as Thansintwang alias Chintwang and also known as Tlwanga, is the second major Myanmar drug supplier to be arrested by the NCB in 2026, it added.

The statement said that Shintwang has emerged as one of the most important smugglers operating along the Myanmar-Mizoram-Manipur-Assam-Tripura corridor and has been identified as a major international supplier of methamphetamine and heroin from the neighboring country.

Investigations revealed his extensive involvement in organizing cross-border smuggling networks to route drug shipments through Mizoram, Manipur, Assam and Tripura to various parts of India and Bangladesh.

He was wanted in multiple cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act by the NBI and several drug law enforcement agencies.

Chintuang was also accused in two NDPS cases registered by Mizoram police in 2025 in connection with suspected trafficking of methamphetamine and heroin. Additionally, he was found involved in six NDPS cases registered by the Mizoram Excise and Narcotics Department in 2023, linked to heroin smuggling.

Investigations indicated his involvement in illicit drug trafficking networks valued at approximately $The National Commercial Bank statement said: Rs 115 crore.

He is linked to seven NDPS cases linked to the Myanmar-Mizoram-Tripura-Assam corridor, and is also suspected in five other cases linked to the Myanmar-Manipur-Assam axis.

Chintuang was the main accused in the 2024 NCB Agartala area case which involved the seizure of 14 kg of methamphetamine and 2.8 kg of heroin. He was also the prime accused in another 2025 NCB Agartala district case which involved the seizure of 49.1 kg of methamphetamine tablets.

During the investigation, several union members and those close to Chentwang were identified and arrested by the NCB, the statement said.

She further said that financial investigations into these cases led to the identification and temporary freezing of several bank accounts linked to the accused persons.

Investigations revealed the existence of a highly organized interstate and international drug trafficking network extending from Myanmar to Mizoram, Manipur, Assam, Tripura and Bangladesh.

The syndicate used multiple smuggling routes, local facilitators, transportation coordinators, hawala channels, and financial handlers to smuggle and distribute methamphetamine and heroin across international borders and between countries.

Since 2025, NCB has intensified its network-centric investigations by adopting a “top-down” and “bottom-up” approach with the aim of dismantling entire gangs rather than just intercepting shipments, the statement said.

In the North-Eastern region alone, the National Central Bureau registered 48 drug cases in 2025, resulting in the arrest of 116 drug traffickers and the seizure of large quantities of drugs worth approximately $665 crore in the illicit drug market.

In 2026, the NCB has already recorded 31 NDPS cases so far, resulting in the arrest of 54 drug traffickers and the seizure of large quantities of drugs during ongoing enforcement operations across the region.
