A 24-year-old man was killed after he was run over by an SUV while fleeing a road attack in Jaipur’s Narayan Vihar area late Thursday night, police said.

The deceased, identified as Atul Mandal, a resident of Narayan Vihar, was returning home in his car when the accident occurred.

Mandal was reversing his car near Narayan petrol pump on Vande Mataram Road when it collided with another car behind him. Police said the occupants of the other car got angry and chased Mandal, forced him to stop, pulled him out of his car and assaulted him.

In an attempt to escape from the attackers, he tried to run to the other side of the road. At that moment, he was hit by an SUV. Police said the SUV ran over him after he fell on the road. Both the occupants of the vehicle involved in the alleged rage incident and the driver of the SUV fled the scene in their vehicles.

Police from Narayan Vihar police station reached the spot and took Mandal to Jaipuria Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

According to the complaint filed by his family on Friday, Mandal, a computer designer who recently opened a restaurant in Narayan Vihar, left his restaurant for home in his Maruti Brezza car around 11 pm on Thursday.

The police took the body to Jaipuria Hospital morgue for an autopsy. After completing the autopsy, the body was handed over to its family.

The police have registered a case and launched an investigation to identify and trace the alleged attackers involved in the road rage incident and the driver of the SUV.

Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects, said Gunjan Soni, Narayan Vihar police station office. Investigating officers are likely to review available CCTV footage to identify the suspects.
