Police in Raichur district are investigating the death of a 35-year-old man whose decapitated body was discovered inside a locked rented house after neighbors complained of a foul smell. Investigators believe the murder occurred several days before the remains were found.

The victim, identified as Tirupati, was living alone in the house located in Kulasombi Colony within the limits of West Police Station. Officers forced the door open on Sunday morning after residents reported a strong smell coming from the property.
They found a decomposed body without the head inside. Investigators suspect that the attackers decapitated the victim and removed the severed head before leaving the scene.
“Today, we received a complaint from neighbors about a foul smell coming from a rented house in Kulasumbi Colony. Since the house was locked from outside, we broke down the door and found a decomposed headless body inside the house,” Lakshmi Devi, sub-inspector of Western police station, told HT.
She said that the condition of the body indicates that the killing occurred three or four days ago. She added: “The body was sent for an autopsy and then handed over to its family. The deceased lived alone in the rented house. We registered a murder case and began a detailed investigation.”
According to the police, several criminal cases have been registered against Tirupati, including motorcycle theft cases. Investigators are examining whether past rivalries or disagreements may be linked to the killing. Police said he was last seen communicating with friends a few days before his disappearance.
