A 52-second video has gone viral on social media showing a group of men attacking a family traveling with children on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway, sparking anger and renewed concerns about road safety in the corridor.

The footage, captured on a car camera running behind the family car, shows the Maruti Suzuki Alto being forced to a stop on the highway, after which a group of men surrounded the car, confronted the driver and dragged him out before assaulting him.

The accident occurred around 10:30 pm on Sunday near Maddur during heavy traffic, Deccan Herald reported.

According to the report, three men were arrested in connection with the incident after a complaint was filed by the driver who was injured during the alleged assault.

The confrontation began after the Alto car collided with a Maruti Suzuki Swift car that was traveling ahead. Then the dispute between the two vehicle occupants developed into a physical altercation.

The video shows the driver’s wife getting out of the car and trying to intervene, while other drivers try to stop the confrontation. DH reported that the family in Alto includes the driver, his wife, their children, and an elderly woman.

The video received huge attention after social media users shared details of the car seen in the footage and pointed out police officials and highway authorities, demanding action against those involved.

How did netizens react?

The video sparked strong reactions from social media users, many of whom demanded strict measures against those involved. “Please take strict action on such incidents and people and inform the public about the action taken. This is the only way to create fear in people’s minds. Law and order is not the right of all troublemakers,” a user wrote.

Another user asked about the safety of ordinary passengers, saying: “Are honest taxpayers at the mercy of these idiots now? What will it take to create respect and fear of law and order?”

A third user shared a personal experience with road-related aggression, writing: “Forget driving, even walking on roads is dangerous. A colleague on a bike shouted at me because I was riding on a narrow road… What if this criminal had a knife?”
