A Class 10 girl died after falling from the third floor of a government school building during the morning assembly in Bidar district, police said on Thursday, adding that they suspected it was a case of suicide.

According to police, the student fell from the building located in the government building Adarsha Vidyalaya in Bhemalkhed village in Chitaguppa taluk while other students were gathered for morning prayers on Wednesday.

“The student sustained serious injuries in the fall and was taken to Bidar for advanced medical care but later died during treatment,” Deputy Inspector Savita Priyanka said.

The girl’s father alleged in the complaint that she was repeatedly harassed by a colleague and demanded action against him, police said.

A case has been registered at Bimalakheda police station and is being investigated, police said.
