A 63-year-old man died on Sunday afternoon after a tree uprooted due to heavy rain and strong winds crashed into a shop in Mumbai’s Kurla West area, officials said.
The incident was reported to the Disaster Management Control Room of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) by Roshan Shinde, personal assistant of the local corporation, after which rescue teams were rushed to the spot.
The victim, identified as Yunus Kondawala, was heading towards the store when Al Hurra fell on him after getting off his two-wheeler. He was seriously injured and was rescued with the help of local residents before being transferred to Fawzia Hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
The incident took place near BMC school in Kamani area of West Kurla, outside Gomez Gaon building. This is the third rain-related death reported in the city since May.
On May 17, 15-year-old Arika Srivastava died in Khar after an auto-rickshaw collided with a tree. On June 30, 11-year-old Vihan Srivastava died after a peepal tree fell on his school bus.

Personnel from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, local police, BEST and BMC ward office reached the spot and launched rescue operations. Firefighters cut down and removed the fallen tree to remove debris and secure the area. The fallen tree also caused a power outage in the area.
Officials said restoration work is currently underway.
The accident comes at a time when Mumbai is witnessing severe monsoon conditions, with heavy rains and strong winds increasing the risk of falling trees and other rain-related accidents across the city.
