At least 11 people were killed on Wednesday in a traffic accident involving several vehicles in Mirzapur district of Uttar Pradesh. The tragedy involved several vehicles, including a truck, a trailer and two SUVs, including a Bolero SUV.

Police said the incident took place near Maud Pond under Drummondganj police station area in Mirzapur at 8:20 pm on Wednesday.

Among the dead were 4 children

Nine people were among the victims on board the Bolero and were burned alive in the accident. Among the passengers of this car were four children. Besides them, a truck driver was killed and the body of the Swift driver was still trapped inside, bringing the total death toll to 11.

According to initial reports, a truck collided with a Bolero, a Swift and a trailer, causing the two four-wheelers to catch fire.

The police said in a statement, “A truck collided from behind with a Swift, a Bolero, and a trailer. Due to the collision, the Bolero and Swift caught fire.”

Efforts are underway to recover the body of the driver of the Swift car. Mirzapur Police said that the Circle Officer (CO) of Lalganj, Station House Officer (SHO) of Drummondganj, along with police personnel from other stations, are at the scene and necessary legal proceedings are being initiated.

How did the tragedy develop?

Superintendent of Police Aparna Rajat Kaushik was among those who searched the place. She said that a truck coming down Drummondganj Hill had a brake failure, which led to the driver losing control. The truck collided with two cars before colliding with a trailer parked in front of it, causing the two cars to collide.

An investigation has been opened and efforts are continuing to identify the victims.
