NEW DELHI: More than 7,400 Naxalites have been arrested and 5,880 have surrendered since 2019, with incidents of violence carried out by left-wing extremism falling by 88 percent from 1,936 in 2010 to 234 in 2025, the Lok Sabha was informed on Tuesday.

Left-wing extremism, which is a serious challenge to internal security, has been significantly curbed in recent times and is confined to only a few pockets, Rai said.
“The number of LWE-affected districts has reduced from 126 in 2018 to just eight in December 2025, with only three districts now the most affected…The number of police stations reporting LWE-related violence has dropped significantly from 465 in 2010 to 119 in 2025,” Rai said.
The Minister further said that special focus has been placed on financial strangulation of LWE activities and finding links between CPI and its financial backers.
“For effective action to intercept funds and other resources of LWE, the state police is taking coordinated action in coordination with central agencies in various ways,” Rai said.
On the development front, apart from the government’s flagship schemes, several specific initiatives have been taken up in LWE-affected areas, with special emphasis on expansion of road network, improvement of telecommunication connectivity, education, skill development and financial inclusion, he said.
The minister said that to improve telecom connectivity in LWE-affected areas, 9,233 towers have been commissioned and 15,016 km of roads have been constructed under two specific schemes – road requirement plan and road connectivity scheme for LWE affected areas.
Citing other development projects in the affected areas, Rai said 46 industrial training institutes and 49 skill development centers have been opened.
Besides, 179 exclusive model residential schools have been implemented for quality education in tribal areas, 6,025 post offices, 1,804 bank branches and 1,321 ATMs have been opened in most LWE-affected districts.
