Mumbai: Five people have been arrested in connection with the shooting at filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence in Mumbai early on Sunday, police said.

Unidentified persons opened fire at filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s house in Mumbai early on Sunday morning.At around 12.45 am, unidentified persons opened fire on the first floor of a nine-storey building located in Mumbai’s Juhu area. At least five rounds were fired and one bullet pierced the glass of a gym located in the building.

The five arrested in Pune are being brought to the city, after which they will be formally arrested, a police official said.

They have been identified as Aman Anand Marote (27) and Aditya Dyaneshwar Gayaki (19) of Karvenagar, Pune; Siddharth Deepak Yenpure (20) and Samarth Shivasaran Pomaji (18) from Dhiyari, Pune; and Swapnil Bandu Sakat (23) from Aro Virya Kamri, Pune.

“They were suspected to be involved in the firing, after which they fled to Pune in a car,” said an officer, requesting anonymity.

Meanwhile, a social media post by Shubham Lonkar, an associate of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi—wanted the October 2024 murder of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and former state minister Baba Siddique—and one Arjo Bishnoi claimed responsibility for the shooting and threatened to “line up” others in Bollywood.

The post said that they warned filmmaker Shetty several times not to interfere with their work, but he remained adamant. It also said that this time the shot was fired outside the house but next time he will be shot in the chest.

Police said they are verifying the claims.
