A 30-year-old man was hacked to death by a group of assailants in Hyderabad’s upscale Madhapur area on Tuesday night, police said on Wednesday.

An official at Madhapur police station said that the victim, identified as Chinnappalli Bhaskar, hails from Apparapalli village in Wardanapet mandal in Warangal district.
According to preliminary investigation, Bhaskar, who was working as a chef in a hotel in Ayyappa Society area of Madhapur, was in a relationship with a woman from the same village.
“But her family opposed the relationship as they belonged to different castes and they married her off to another man about three years ago. However, Bhaskar continued to pursue her even after her marriage, which led to disagreements between her and her husband that led to divorce,” the police official said.
The woman’s father allegedly suspected Bhaskar was responsible for the breakdown of her marriage and threatened to take revenge on him.
At around 11 pm on Tuesday, five men arrived at the hostel where Bhaskar was staying in the Ayyappa Society. They reportedly called him outside under the pretext of talking to him and attacked him with knives and sticks as soon as he left. Bhaskar sustained multiple injuries and died on the spot, the police official said.
“Based on a complaint filed by Madhu, Bhaskar’s elder brother, we have registered a case of murder and are investigating it. Forensic teams have examined the crime scene,” the official said.
Unconfirmed reports said that two people, including the woman’s father, surrendered to police on Wednesday. Police are also questioning the woman as part of the investigation.
Bhaskar’s body was taken to Osmania General Hospital for post-mortem examination.
His relatives staged a protest outside Madhapur police station, demanding justice and immediate arrest of those responsible.
