An official said on Wednesday that 23 people, including five women, were arrested in connection with stone-pelting at Ambedkar Jayanti convoy, which resulted in a policeman being injured.

The incident took place on Tuesday at Chaka Junnar village under Sohawar police station limits, when a procession celebrating the birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar was passing through the area.

District Magistrate Pranay Singh said that an FIR had been lodged against 38 people, of whom 23 had been arrested.

According to police, some individuals allegedly threw stones at the procession, causing chaos and tensions between the groups. A policeman was injured by a stone. Some people blocked the road using tractor trailers.

Superintendent of Police OP Singh said about 50 processions were organized across the district on Tuesday under police escort.

Singh said the incident appeared to be a deliberate attempt to disturb the peace.

“Members of the Yadav community obstructed the procession. The political motives behind this will become clear after the investigation,” he stated.
