Polling across 296 Assembly constituencies in the three districts was conducted peacefully, with participation of over 5.31 crore eligible voters.

West Bengal elections 2026

Polling for the 294-member West Bengal Assembly will be held in two phases on April 23 and 29, with the counting of votes scheduled for May 4. The first phase will cover 152 electoral districts, followed by 142 electoral districts in the second phase.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), accusing it of promoting chaos and creating a “maha jungle raj”. He cited the Bagtoi massacre, in which about 10 women and children were burned alive in Birbhum district, to underscore his criticism.

Tamil Nadu elections 2026

Tamil Nadu is scheduled to go to the polls in one phase on April 23, with the votes to be counted on May 4.

The upcoming elections are set to witness a tough contest between the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance and the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance.

Actor-turned-politician Vijay is also gearing up to make his election debut, which could turn the contest into a three-corner battle.

Tamil Nadu elections live: Stalin attacks opposition, pitches ‘Dravidian model 2.0’ ahead of Tamil Nadu elections

Tamil Nadu Elections Live: MK Stalin on Thursday dismissed the opposition, saying they were focusing on rhetoric and hoping for his downfall, while his government remained committed to delivering services to the people.

“We have removed the rule of the AIADMK, which pushed Tamil Nadu into a deep hole for 10 years, and with your support, we have created a model Dravidian government as a new dawn for Tamil Nadu. The Opposition spends its time talking, we spend our time doing,” Stalin said in a speech to a crowd in Marimalai Nagar.

He added that the “Dravidian Model 2.0”, the term used by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) movement for the second term it seeks, sets out a roadmap for the future of the state.

Targeting Edappadi K Palaniswami, Stalin accused him of engaging in “character assassination” and spreading lies instead of focusing on policy issues.

West Bengal elections live: Yashwant Sinha slams EC, alleges bias towards BJP over ‘TMC ultimatum’ statement

West Bengal elections live: Yashwant Sinha on Thursday criticized the Election Commission of India over its statements on the Trinamool Congress’ “ultimatum”, alleging that the statement echoed the BJP’s stance.

He also targeted Chief Election Commissioner Ganesh Kumar, accusing him of acting as a representative of the ruling party. Speaking to the media, Sinha said one would expect the poll body to conduct a neutral election.

“The BJP has made this statement that Gyanesh Kumar, the Chief Election Commissioner, has effectively become a member of the BJP and is acting as a functionary of the party. One would naturally expect the Election Commission to conduct impartial elections under its auspices,” he said.
