Amid a largely bilateral contest in West Bengal, where the TMC and the BJP are vying for power, the Congress appears to be trying to present itself as the necessary “third option”.

The AIMIM leader in Mumbai also showed confidence in the party’s chances in Bengal. Claiming that the public was more receptive to his agenda. Here are some key updates about the 2026 elections:

The campaign ends in Bengal: The leaders were seen giving a final push to their political parties in Bengal as campaigning for the second phase of the Assembly elections ended on Monday. For the BJP, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Home Minister Amit Shah conducted separate roadshows in Kalyani Assembly constituency and Bhalla Paschim Assembly constituency, respectively.

Prime Minister Modi’s message to Bengal: In an open letter to the people of Bengal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that he aims to turn every challenge in West Bengal into an opportunity. “Despite the scorching heat and multiple rallies, I did not feel even the slightest fatigue during these elections in Bengal. These rallies and roadshows seemed like a pilgrimage for me,” Prime Minister Modi said.

Visit TVK Chief Vijay Temple: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay was seen visiting a temple in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruchendur recently, with just days to go until the election results are announced in the state. He visited Vishwaroopa Swami at Subramaniya Swamy Temple, known as Tiruchendur Murugan Temple.

Trying to manipulate the Kozhikode polls? Congress Kozhikode unit chief K Praveen Kumar has reportedly alleged attempts to manipulate the electoral process. According to PTI, he demanded a census of all VVPAT slips in the district. The Congress recently alleged that the strong room where electronic voting machines were stored in the Perambra constituency was opened by the returning officer – an allegation denied by the Election Commission.

“Third Road Stadium in Bengal”: Amid the largely two-party choice in Bengal, the Congress and AIMIM seem to be hinting at a ‘third way’. West Bengal Congress official Ghulam Ahmad Mir said the party is the necessary “third option” in the state. In Mumbai, AIMIM leader Waris Pathan also expressed confidence in the party’s electoral playing field and its chances in Bengal.
