Two terrorists were gunned down in a security operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Jofar area – dubbed Operation Kia. Udhampurofficials said Wednesday.

Clashes broke out between terrorists and security forces in Jofar area of ​​Ramnagar in Udhampur district on Tuesday, (HT file).Both terrorists have been identified as commanders of the Jaish-e-Mohammed terror outfit. While the identity of one—Mavi—has been confirmed, the identity of the other is yet to be verified.

An AK-47 and an M4 carbine were recovered from the neutral terrorists, who were contacted on Tuesday.

Operation doneIn a post by Indian Army Corps White Knight X, the operation was launched based on specific intelligence provided by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, CIF Delta troops.

White Knight Corps along with J&K Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) planned and executed a focused joint counter-terrorism operation in the general area of ​​Jofar Forest, Basantgarh.

Forces have cordoned off the target area to prevent the terrorists from escaping.

“Contact was established with the terrorists yesterday and since then, the terrorists were prevented from breaking contact. Following a calibrated and coordinated response, two terrorists were successfully neutralized. The operation highlighted seamless inter-agency coordination, tactical precision and high standards of professionalism,” the post said.

The operation has been successfully completed, it said, adding that the area is under surveillance.

Clashes broke out between terrorists and security forces in Jofar area around 4pm on Tuesday.

“At around 4 pm, an encounter broke out between armed terrorists, believed to number two to three, and security forces in Jofar area, 25 km from Ramnagar tehsil”.

He said that additional troops have been deployed in the area.

The Army also shared information on X. “In an intelligence based joint operation, terrorists were contacted by troops of CIF Delta, #WhiteKnightCorps, @JmuKmrPolice and #CRPF in the general area of ​​Vasantgarh around 4 PM today. Cordon has been set up. Firing is underway,” the state operation said.

In parallel, security forces continued their search to locate a group of three to four Jaish terrorists in Chatru area of ​​Kishtwar district.
