The Assam Police on Friday seized approx $50 thousand in cash, $80 lakh in fixed deposits and other items from the Guwahati residence of a state civil servant accused of receiving bribes.

The money was recovered from the residence of Lachit Kumar Das, an Assam civil service officer posted as additional director of land records, according to a police statement, which added that he was arrested on Thursday from his office in Guwahati while accepting a bribe. $45,000 from the complainant.
The investigators of the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Directorate arrested Das following a complaint filed by him $1 lakh as bribe to issue No Objection Certificate (NOC) for land sale permission. After the arrest, a case was registered against Das under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
After that, his house was raided $48.38 lakh unaccounted cash was found inside the safe. Officials also found FD certificates valuable $80 lakh in the names of Das and his family members.
The police also found several general and postal life insurance policies in the names of Das and his family members. Details of multiple bank accounts and properties in the name of the accused were also found. Investigations are still underway to trace other properties linked to the accused.
