Zoya Akhtar calls theft at her production office an 'inside job' after 66 hard drives disappear: 'It's sad what people do for money'

Zoya Akhtar spoke about the alleged hard drive theft at Tiger Baby Films, the company she founded with director Reema Kagti. The case, which involves the reported disappearance of 66 hard drives containing important production material, has raised concerns in the entertainment industry. In an interaction with Bollywood Hungama, Zoya confirmed that a robbery had taken place at her office and said that the matter is currently under investigation by the police.“Yes, there was a robbery in my office, and the hard disks were stolen. We filed a complaint and the police arrested some people as well. It is an inside job, and it is sad to what lengths people go to make money,” she said. However, the director explained that the company has secured backup copies of the missing content.“Fortunately, we have backup files for everything,” she added.

An FIR was registered and two accused were arrested

According to reports, the complaint was filed by Mahjabeen Mushtaq Sheikh, Executive Assistant and HR Director at Tiger Baby Digital LLP.Following the complaint, Bandra police registered an FIR against Mohammad Shahid Azim Khan and Ritesh Suresh Shah. The defendants were later arrested and remanded in custody until May 29.The alleged theft was reportedly uncovered on May 21 after employees were unable to locate several hard drives required for ongoing projects.

An internal inspection allegedly revealed damaged storage boxes and several empty hard drive boxes inside the office.

The missing drives allegedly contain unreleased content

Reports indicate that the company’s inventory includes 119 hard drives, 66 of which are allegedly missing. The stolen drives reportedly stored sensitive production data, with capacities ranging from 16TB to 72TB.Investigators suspect that the missing material may include raw footage, edited scenes, post-production files, archival backups, advertising campaign content and unreleased material associated with films and OTT projects. Some reports also claim that the data may have included content related to projects like Made in Heaven and Ghost Stories. Police officials reportedly said that one of the accused confessed to stealing several hard drives over the past few months and selling them on the gray market. Authorities are now investigating whether any data from the drives was duplicated, leaked or circulated online before they disappeared.
