Zendaya shares how she knows when someone is “the one,” and addresses the rumors surrounding her and Tom Holland wedding that did/didn’t happen.
While joining New York Times Podcast Modern lovenext to her Drama Co-star Robert Pattison discusses the film’s question: “What if you don’t know the person you love as well as you think you do?” And the idea of knowing how a relationship with someone is going ahead of time.
“I think the moment you meet someone, you know the direction the relationship is going to go,” Pattinson said. Explaining further, he added: “You can have a mixture of emotions, you can be very attracted to someone, and also have some fear or something like that at the same time. It’s like, OhThis may be why you are attracted to them in the first place. But you know that fear will eventually do something to you.
Zendaya said she agrees “in some ways” because “from her personal experience, I’ve found that people get nervous around people.” “But there’s a certain feeling that I was able to experience when I knew that this was my personality, because I don’t feel nervous around them. In Zendaya’s last film, Dramashe and Pattinson play a couple about to get married. However, things take a turn when Zendaya’s character makes a shocking revelation about her past. Considering the plot of the film, the stars discussed the idea of how much you want to know about your partner’s past before marrying him.
“In life, it’s natural that we grow and change. That will happen no matter what. So it’s good to know someone, at least at their core, so that you can be a part of that in some way as they grow and change.”
Zendaya then touched on her relationship with Holland, explaining how they established a bond early on since they grew up together.
She added, “I feel like I’m biased because I’ve been able to grow with the person I love and get to know them through being a teenager until now. So it’s like of course we’re going to change and we’re going to grow and life is like anything, but I still feel like there’s a bond or a connection where you feel like you know someone, at least enough to feel safe with them.”
Later, Zendaya was asked about speculation that she is now married to Holland. After Zendaya’s stylist, Lou Roach, said that “the wedding actually happened” during a red carpet interview, there has been heightened interest in whether or not their wedding actually happened, even as AI photos of the couple from their wedding have spread online. (Zendaya confirmed the photos weren’t real.) The actress said that while she understood this concern, she emphasized how much they wanted to maintain a sense of privacy.
“Well, for me, I feel like there’s a level of anti-social investment in my personal relationship, which I understand, and I realize that I’m a public person, and so is he, and I also realize that we’ve grown up in front of people, and we’ve done movies where we fall in love with each other. I really understand that, and I don’t want to dismiss it as a ‘stay out of my business’ thing but in a lot of ways, I’m also a very private person, and I do my best to be able to have things for myself and for him as well.
“We generally do our best not to hide ourselves from the world, but just, I guess, keep things to ourselves so we can keep that joy within ourselves and our loved ones and our family,” she continued. “So, that’s like my broad way of saying, I hear that, but I also like my little boundaries of what I like to bring up and talk about, but then also what I’m willing to share as well.”
