Just in time for those cold Canadian summer nights, “hot competition”Team Canada’s signature fleece jacket is finally available for pre-order.
The limited-edition jacket — inspired by the jacket worn by Hudson Williams’ character Shane Hollander on the Hockey Romance series — will be available for pre-order on June 3, Hot competition Producer Accent Aigu Entertainment and the boycott of Canada made the announcement on Wednesday morning. Fans immediately expressed their desire to own the jacket as soon as the series aired. Final design details will be available on the pre-order date, according to the statement.
The jacket will be available for purchase exclusively on the Province of Canada’s website, and 10 percent of the jacket’s net profits will benefit You Can Play, a non-profit organization that works to promote LGBTQIA+ inclusion in sports.
“We chose You Can Play because their unwavering dedication to inclusivity reflects the essence of the game Hot competitionsaid show creator and Accent Aigu Entertainment creative director Jacob Tierney and Accent Aigu Entertainment CEO Brendan Brady in a statement.
The statement continued: “Teamwork, respect and the courage to be yourself are the values that bring You Can Play to life every day. We are proud to support their work in creating spaces where everyone truly belongs.”
Although worn by a fictional hockey player, the very real NHL and National Hockey League Players Association will match contributions for each jacket sale, up to $25,000 CAD per organization for a combined total of $50,000 CAD, according to the release. These contributions will directly support You Can Play’s mission.
“Sports have the power to bring people together and partnerships like this show what is possible when storytelling, community and sports come together to support inclusion. We are grateful to the Heated Rivalry team, the province of Canada, the NHL and the NHLPA for standing with You Can Play and helping us continue the work to make hockey and sports everywhere a place where everyone belongs,” You Can Play president and president David Palumbo said in a statement.
Not surprisingly, the jacket is made in Canada using “carefully curated materials from around the world” and was designed as a collector’s item in collaboration with the show’s costume designer, Hannah Polley. There will be a limited amount of stock and will be available while supplies last.
Canada County co-founders Julie Brown and Jeremy Watt added, “We’ve taken the time to create a beautiful product that we think fans will appreciate. This has been a rewarding project for us to work on, and we’re proud to create it in Canada with a strong focus on sustainability, quality and care.”
Hailing from Canada’s Crave channel and streaming on HBO Max in the US, the series focuses on the fictional world of hockey based on Rachel Reid’s popular romance books. Tierney created, wrote and directed the series.
