Will Arnett has joined the Prime Video limited series ChallengerIn which star Kristen Stewart plays astronaut Sally Ride.

Arnett will play NASA administrator George Abe in the drama inspired by the 2023 book New guys By Meredith E. Bagby. Challenger It will chronicle “the events leading up to the Challenger disaster, the investigation that followed, and Sally Ride’s pioneering journey as the first American woman in space,” the log says. Big Swing Productions, Amblin Television and Stewart’s Nevermind Pictures are producing the series.

As NASA’s director of flight operations, Abby was the person who assigned Ride to crew on the 1983 mission aboard the space shuttle Challenger, making her the first American woman in space. Abe later became director of the Johnson Space Center. Ride flew another shuttle mission and was part of the ground flight control team on several other missions before serving on the committee that investigated the 1986 Challenger explosion.

Prime Video is lit green Challenger in March, marking Stewart’s first continuing role in a television or live-action series.

Maggie Cohen (Stairs, Defense: American Crime Story) created The Challenger and serves as writer and showrunner. Cohn executive produces with director James Hawes; Kyra Sedgwick and Valerie Stadler for Big Swing Productions, which developed Bagby’s book; Bagby. Stuart, Dylan Meyer and Maggie McLean for Nevermind Pictures; and Darrell Frank and Justin Falvey for Amblin Television.
