Shekhar Soman is back with his late night YouTube show Shekhar Tonite after 14 years, with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari as his first guest. Gadkari recalls how former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee once stopped his convoy to express his love for Suman’s show. Suman was last seen in Hiramandi.
Shekhar Suman introduced India’s first late night talk show in 1997 with ‘Movers And Shakers’. But what people loved the most was Suman’s funny impressions, especially his take on former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He started his career in films with the film ‘Utsav’ featuring Rekha, but became more popular on television.
He later hosted two more talk shows, ‘Simply Shekhar’ and ‘Carry On Shekhar’. In 2005, he also appeared as a judge on ‘The Great Indian Laughter Challenge’ alongside Navjot Singh Sidhu, although he left the show midway. After a gap of 14 years, Suman is back with a brand new show titled ‘Shekhar Toneet’ on YouTube, which premiered on May 15.
His first guest on the show was Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.
When Atal Bihari Vajpayee stopped his convoy heading to Shekhar Suman
In the programme, Shekhar spoke about a personal and moving meeting he once had with former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
He said: “I had gone to the wedding of an industrialist’s son, and he was there as the chief guest. As his convoy was moving, I ran forward so that he could see me. Mr. Vajpayee stopped his car, got out, walked towards me. He hugged me, patted me and said, ‘I have been looking for you for a long time.’
I record your show and watch it every day. When it takes off on me, I laugh out loud. Never stop showing. “I love him.”
Gadkari supports Prime Minister Modi’s call on international travel
When asked about the filmmakers’ response to…
Prime Minister Modi
Appealing to limit international travel, Gadkari was direct. He said: “They better listen to Prime Minister Narendra Modi if they know what is good for them! If the Prime Minister is saying that, then we should pay attention to it. There must be some strong and serious reasons behind it – not buying gold, using less petrol and diesel, working from home. Maybe there is a crisis lurking around the corner because of the war that has been going on.”
So he has a point there.
