FX will remain suspended at Wrexham AFC Stadium for the rest of 2020.
The Disney-owned outlet gave the show a three-season pickup Welcome to Wrexhamthe documentary series by Rob Moc and Ryan Reynolds about the Welsh football club, its fans and its city. The renewal comes just before the premiere of Season 5, scheduled for May 14, and the show will continue through the eighth installment, likely in 2029.
“A request for a television series for almost three seasons is unheard of and can only be achieved through the pioneering work of our Emmy Award-winning documentary team and the continued rise of Wrexham AFC and all those who work so hard to make sporting history,” McReynolds said in a statement. “We are eternally grateful to our fearless and tireless partners at FX for being with us every step of the way. We are thrilled that we will continue to tell the Wrexham story for years to come.”
Mack and Reynolds bought a majority stake in the club in November 2020, when it was in the fifth tier of the English football pyramid. Over the past three seasons, Wrexham have been promoted three times in a row and now compete in the EFL Championship, one step below the top-tier Premier League.
Season 5 will chronicle the club’s quest for promotion to the Premier League. As of publishing time, Wrexham are seventh in the Championship, one place adrift of the promotion play-offs with five games remaining in the season.
“When we launched Welcome to Wrexham“We never imagined the impact he would have on the club and the city while creating one of the most successful and beloved docuseries on television,” said Nick Grade, President of FX Entertainment. “This three-season renewal is a testament to Rob and Ryan’s vision and the lasting connection they’ve built with fans around the world.”
