Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Wednesday. This interaction marked their first public meeting in more than ten years.According to India Today, the meeting was held at Seva Teerth in the national capital and was said to have lasted around 25 minutes.
Vijay’s visit came just weeks after he took over as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
Vijay raises key Tamil Nadu issues
During the meeting, Vijay reportedly submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister in which he highlighted several important issues related to Tamil Nadu.According to reports, the memorandum included concerns related to the Vande Mataram controversy, the Mekedatu project dispute, defence-related projects, and the arrest of fishermen from Tamil Nadu by the Sri Lankan Navy.One of the major issues raised by Vijay was the controversy surrounding the singing of Vande Mataram during official government functions. Reports said that Vijay urged the Prime Minister to direct the Union Home Ministry to allow the singing of the Tamil Nadu state anthem in front of Vande Mataram on official functions.
Guard of honor at Tamil Nadu house
After concluding the meeting with Prime Minister Modi, Vijay arrived at Tamil Nadu House in Delhi.During the visit, the Prime Minister received a guard of honor.
This was his first official visit to the national capital since assuming office earlier this month.Social media users reacted strongly to Vijay’s meeting with the Prime Minister and his reception in Delhi. “As far as I’m concerned, he will be the best PM in the country,” one user commented. “@actorvijay congratulations to my capital New Delhi Welcome,” another social media user wrote, while a third comment described Vijay as “devastated”.
Suresh Gopi urges the audience to give Vijay time
Meanwhile, actor and Union Minister Suresh Gopi once again reacted to Vijay’s rise in politics. Speaking to reporters, Suresh Gopi said people should give Vijay enough time to prove his abilities as an administrator before criticizing him.“Let Chief Minister Vijay work. Let him work and prove himself. It will not be right to criticize him before that. People have given him a chance. Let him do good work,” he said.During the same interaction, Suresh Gopi was also asked about the discussions surrounding the expansion of Vijay’s political movement in Kerala.Replying to the question, the Union Minister welcomed wider political participation and said he had no objection to Vijay’s party entering politics in Kerala.Suresh Gopi commented, “What is the problem if he starts the Tamil Nadu party that achieved victory in Kerala? If he comes, let him come. Let him come wherever (Kerala) he wants, let him start. Let everyone come and benefit the world and the Tamil people.”
