Potentially bad news for Spencer Pratt: The president just expressed his support for Pratt’s run for mayor of Los Angeles.
Reporters asked Donald Trump on Wednesday if he saw himself in Pratt, as they are both former reality TV stars who entered politics.
Trump replied: “I’d like to see him in good shape, he’s a character” (video below). “I suppose he might support me. Does he support me?”
“I think so,” an off-camera reporter replied.
“I heard he does that,” Trump continued. “I heard he’s a big MAGA guy. He’s doing great.”
Trump then went on to talk about “fraudulent” ballots.
Pratt is registered as a Republican but has done his best to downplay his party affiliation — and distance himself from Trump — in his effort to unseat unpopular incumbent Karen Bass in the heavily Democratic city.
Bass and Los Angeles City Councilwoman Nithya Raman — who is also in the race — repeatedly tried to link Pratt to Trump during the campaign. While Trump’s statement was not a complete endorsement, the comments are sure to be used by Pratt’s opponents.
Raman quickly tweeted the “big MAGA person” line and Pratt responded with a meme where he was kind of rolling his eyes.
Previously, Raman claimed on Channel X, “Donald Trump is about to endorse Spencer…We need to raise more [money] To prove that Los Angeles doesn’t want a MAGA Republican mayor living in a Bel Air hotel.
Pratt responded with a tweet: “I have the only support I need. Moms and animal lovers who want to feel safe.”
As for his political affiliation, Pratt previously said: “I represent all of Los Angeles. I do not represent a party. I do not have a campaign manager. I do not have campaign advisors. There is no political party that supports me.”
