Hollywood icon Tom Cruise has cemented his status as one of cinema’s greatest action stars. However, this time, he is set to surprise audiences with a completely different character in ‘Digger’, showcasing a new and unexpected side of his talent.On Tuesday, the actor released a new “retrospective trailer” for his upcoming black comedy “Digger,” directed by Oscar-winning director Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu.

While sharing the footage, Tom wrote a reflective caption that read: “For the past 46 years, it has been an honor to work alongside countless talented artists and crews to create these characters, stories and films for all of you. I look forward to seeing you in the films! DIGGER.”

Not only does the newly released clip tease fans with some images from the upcoming film, it also celebrates Cruise’s incredible career that spans nearly five decades. The footage gives fans a look at Cruise as Digger Rockwell, a larger-than-life character said to be the strongest man in the world. Far from the action hero persona that has characterized much of his recent work, this role seems to place Cruise in a dark, unexpected and offbeat comedic world.

Tom also made his decision to announce the release date of the film’s official trailer by sharing a new poster and a caption that reads, “Bang, Bang, Bang! Trailer starts July 13th.”

Earlier speaking at CinemaCon, the “Mission: Impossible” actor couldn’t help but gush about the idea of working with Inarritu, saying, “This was the kind of movie I wanted to make movies. It’s wild, it’s funny, and I can’t wait for you all to see it.”Director Iñárritu also explained how he first came up with the idea for “Digger” nine years ago and that he had been discussing it with Cruise for the past seven years.He said: “When I watched Tom Cruise transform into Digger Rockwell, I was not prepared for it. Embodying this character, it is another kind of courage… This role may be his most challenging work.”Along with Cruise in the lead role, the film also stars Sandra Howler, Jesse Plemons, Riz Ahmed, Michael Stuhlbarg, Sophie Wilde, and Emma D’Arcy.
