Tim Allen blames ‘Home Improvement’ reboot due to ‘personality issues’ of on-screen offspring

Tim Allen reveals why Home improvement Reboot “stuck”.

During an interview with Us Weeklythe actor was asked for an update after he shared his hopes in recent years for a potential spinoff of the ’90s sitcom.

“They keep talking about how to move forward, but they get stuck [because] “There are some personal issues right now with the boys,” Allen said, referring to the actors who played his on-screen sons on the show: Zachary Ty Bryan, Jonathan Taylor Thomas and Taran Noah Smith.

“They have their own problems” toy story Voice actor added. “I always thought it would be great for the story to be about them. That’s a bit challenging at the moment, to put it mildly.”

Home improvementwhich ran for eight seasons from 1991 to 1999, followed Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor (Allen), an accident-prone TV host who raised three mischievous boys — Brad (Brian), Randy (Thomas), and Mark (Smith) — with his wife (Patricia Richardson), co-host (Richard Karn) and eccentric neighbor (Earl Hyndman).

Since the show ended, Brian has found himself in trouble with the law several times and is currently serving a 16-month prison sentence in California for a drunk driving conviction. This will be followed by a 19-month prison sentence in Oregon for probation violations related to the domestic violence conviction in 2023. He was also arrested in 2020 for strangling his then-girlfriend, Joni Faye Cartwright.

As for Smith and Thomas, Richardson previously said in… Back to the best podcast that the former “isn’t an actor anymore” (Smith’s last credit was in 1999 Batman Beyond) The latter “is not really interested in acting, he wants to direct and write.”

“It’s not going to be the show at all, and people think we can magically go back to where we were 30 years ago and do a show that was 30 years ago,” Richardson said of the possibility of a reboot. “I think we’ve all changed a bit since then, and it’s going to be a very strange show.”
