The crime thriller starring Tiffany Haddish is set to be a sensation in theaters.
Samuel Goldwyn Films acquired The girl in the river The exciting film will be released in theaters and on digital platforms on September 4. Hollywood Reporter I’ve learned. Maggie Grace, Devon Sawa and Ralph Macchio round out the cast of writer-director Brando Benetton’s film.
The girl in the river The film revolves around an experienced criminologist and a young psychiatrist who head to a small town in Mississippi after a girl is murdered and her twin sister disappears.
“I know you want to retire, but yesterday two twin sisters disappeared,” Haddish says in the trailer. “Their father—his political power is absolute. We’ve already found the body. If we don’t find her sister in the next 24 hours, she won’t come back at all.”
Later, Sawa laments the challenges inherent in crime. “We have a lot of evidence, and no real suspects,” he says in the footage. “Just because you think someone is a killer doesn’t mean they are,” he adds.
The trailer ends with Haddish declaring: “You’re not ready to face what true evil looks like.”
Brando Benetton directed the project from his own script. Joe Lemmon and Andrew Stevens serve as producers on the independent film.
Executive producers include Hicham Benkirane, Alan B. Burstein, Don Burstein, Rick Moore, Alessandro Benazzi, Jeff Rushman and Sam Stevens.
Haddish’s most recent feature credits include Bad Boys: Ride or Die, The haunted mansion, Easter Sunday and The unbearable weight of enormous talent.
