Some good news for Tolkien fans: Prime Video The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power It will debut later this year.

The next installment of the high-budget Amazon hit has been rumored to arrive in 2027, but a source close to the production says Hollywood Reporter It will be a little faster than that.

The show is a huge hit for the streaming platform with around 170 million viewers worldwide and a major driver of Prime membership sign-ups, and is set to make a very big time jump in season three.

The official plot synopsis states: “Jumping forward several years after the events of Season 2, Season 3 takes place at the height of the Elven-Sauron War, as the Dark Lord seeks to forge the One Ring that will give him the advantage he needs to win the war and finally conquer all of Middle-earth.”

We last visited JRR Tolkien’s Middle-earth in October 2024 (when Season 2 arrived on Prime Video), making it another two-year gap between seasons. The Elven War occurs before the clash seen in Peter Jackson’s prologue Lord of the Rings Films known as War of the Last Alliance.

Returning cast members for Power rings Includes Charlie Vickers as Sauron, Morfydd Clarke as Galadriel, and Robert Aramayo as Elrond. Among the recently announced new arrivals Strange things“Jimmy Campbell Bower, Ray DonovanEddie Marsan, as well as Andrew Richardson, Zubin Varla and Adam Young, whose exact roles are not yet known.

Showrunners and executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay were teased THR Their third season plans ahead of the second season’s premiere, telling us: “We’re working on it. We’re cooking. Let’s cook!” The official renewal came in February 2025, with production beginning at Shepperton Studios in the UK shortly after.

Payne and McKay are joined by EPs Lindsey Weber, Justin Doble and Kate Hazell and executive producer and director Charlotte Brandstrom. Matthew Penry-Davie is the producer and Ally O’Leary, Tim Kane and Andrew Lee are associate producers.
