Hollywood star Andy Serkis, who will direct The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, has confirmed that the role of Aragorn, previously played by Viggo Mortensen, will be recast in the upcoming film.Amid much buzz and speculation that Mortensen, who played the iconic role in the original three-part film series, has been replaced by Leo Woodall, Serkis confirmed reports of his former star’s exit.
However, contrary to reports, he has not confirmed the staff update.

Speaking in an interview with ScreenRant, Serkis addressed the ongoing speculation about the film’s casting and said: “I don’t know what’s out there right now, but I know there’s a lot of speculation, but let’s just say we’re recasting the role and we’re going to find someone.”

Reports have indicated that Woodall has been cast, while others have stated that he is among the names being considered for the cast to appear.

Serkis noted that members of the original team behind director Peter Jackson’s Middle-earth saga are participating in this spin-off to ensure story continuity and other plot details. He added: “I think it’s going to be a great combination of a new story and an intimate story within the lore and world of Middle-earth that we all love. You have to remember that for some people, this will be their first film about Middle-earth. That’s why it’s been an interesting journey.”
“Set in the world of “The Lord of the Rings,” the film takes place between the events of “The Hobbit” and the original trilogy, focusing on the hunt for Gollum. Serkis, who famously portrayed the character, teased the film, saying, “It’s a physical chase for the character, but it’s also a psychological chase. So we’re about to set off now, which is very exciting. And yeah, it’s going to be a big ride.”

It is said that the film “The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum” will bring to the screens an untold chapter of the series. The film is currently scheduled to hit theaters on December 17, 2027. The film is expected to clash with the Marvel superhero film “Avengers: Secret Wars.”
