Ranveer Singh to play Lord Shiva in film adaptation of The Immortals of Meluha: Reports

Ranveer Singh has bagged perhaps his most ambitious role yet – Lord Shiva.The actor, who is said to have bagged the rights to the best-selling fantasy novel ‘The Immortals of Meluha’, is reportedly gearing up for a big screen adaptation which will be filmed under his production banner.

According to the latest reports, the ambitious project will be divided into a large-scale film trilogy set in a legendary cinematic universe.Ranveer Singh acquires the rights to The Immortals of MeluhaAccording to Pinkvilla, Singh is expected to play the role of Lord Shiva in the trilogy, adapted from the work of author Amish Tripathi. “The Immortals of Meluha” is the first book in the popular Shiva trilogy and reimagines Lord Shiva as a heroic figure destined to change the fate of an ancient civilization.The report also states that Singh was awarded adaptation rights for a large sum, though the exact figure has not been revealed.Ranveer Singh supports the film trilogyA source close to the development claimed that Ranveer has been passionate about bringing Meluha to the big screen for a long time. The report quoted a source as saying, “The acquisition happened recently and the project is now officially in development. The makers are approaching the franchise as a long-term cinematic universe and the plan is to tell the story across 3 films.”

Production will begin in 2028While the cast has not yet been finalized, the team has begun working on the script and worldbuilding process. Production of the first batch is expected to begin in 2028.Akshay Kumar expressed his regret over not purchasing the rights to the bookAkshay Kumar, who shot the cover of Amish Tripathi’s book Scion Of Ikshvaku, revealed at the event that when The Immortals Of Meluha was released, he was advised to buy the rights, but he refused.

Speaking at the event, he said, “I still remember that when the first Amish book on Lord Shiva came out, I was advised to buy the rights of the book and make a film about it. I saw the cover of the book and was not convinced that I could play the role of Lord Shiva.”

However, when Karan Johar later told me about the story, I felt I had missed something. The actor, fresh off the back-to-back successes of ‘Dhurandhar’ and ‘Dhurandhar The Revenge’, is expected to begin work on director Aditya Dhar’s next venture from March 2027. The actor is also attached to the zombie film ‘Pralay’, directed by Jay Mehta, which is slated to go on floors in August 2026.
