Just days before announcing its lineup for the 2026-27 season, Fox is looking forward to the 2027-2028 season — and also a return to television history.
The network has greenlighted a remake of the 1980s series Highway to heaven. Fox Entertainment Studios will produce and own the series, with Amblin Television and Michael Landon Productions also involved. Landon created and starred in the original series, which ran from 1984 to 1989 on NBC.
Jason Katims (Friday Night Lights, Parenthood) will be the showrunner in the new series, which, like its predecessor, will follow a “probationary angel” sent to Earth to earn his wings by helping those in need.
“I’m excited about the challenge of putting a contemporary lens on this classic tale,” Katims said in a statement. “The idea of telling a human story about an angel feels immediately emotional — and fun. I love getting out of my comfort zone to tell a story about someone trying to do better as an angel than he did as a man.”
Highway to heaven It is the second series that Fox has greenlit for the 2027–28 season. The network was also ordered StewieA Family man The spinoff centered on the youngest member of the Griffin family.

Fox Television Network President Michael Thorne added: “With the amazing pairing of Jason Katims, Cindy Landon and the Amblin team, we are building on more Highway to heaven‘s “A timeless legacy of transformation and optimism in a way that feels deeply relevant to our audience.”
Katims will executive produce with Darrell Frank, Justin Falvey and Todd Cohen for Amblin Television; Mark Aitken; and Cindy Landon and Wayne LeBoeuf for Michael Landon Productions.
