Dominique McElligott, best known for playing Queen Maeve in the hit series “The Boys,” has not only hung up her superhero costume, but also stepped away from acting. After The Boys ended this week, showrunner Eric Kripke revealed the character’s surprise absence from the finale.
Kripke revealed in an interview with TV Insider published on Wednesday that McElligott actually came close to returning as her character for a brief appearance; But she refused the invitation.“Dom and I email a few times every six to eight months or so, and she checked in with me after the Palisades fires,” Kripke told the outlet. “We send emails to each other, and I said pretty early on because I wanted to know if we were building toward it, ‘Would you be open to coming back one day? Here are the dates. However, McEligott rejected the offer. “It was very fun and respectful,” Kripke said, continuing to explain, “She just said, ‘I’ve kind of quit acting.’” [I’m not] “I’m really acting up, and I’m busy with these appointments anyway.”The model insisted there was no bad blood, saying: “It was a very fun and non-controversial moment, you know?”While Queen Maeve has not actually appeared in the series since the end of Season 3 in 2022, her character has continued to appear in recaps, montages, and other references throughout subsequent seasons. She made her last official appearance during the explosive Season 3 finale, in which the superhero sacrifices herself in battle against boy soldier Jensen Ackles in a last-ditch effort to protect others. While the encounter left her depowered, effectively marking the end of her superhero journey, it left the door open for her potential return.
