The beauty of mistakesA documentary film by Finnish director Jukka Karkkainen (Punk syndrome), will celebrate its international premiere at the Thessaloniki Documentary Film Festival on Thursday. Its slogan: “Documentary Goes to Shakespeare,” in reference to the works of William Shakespeare Comedy of errors.

The film about family, belonging and love arrives in Greece having just won two awards at the Tampere Film Festival in Finland, where it had its world premiere: the main prize in the National Competition for Films longer than 30 minutes and the Risto Jarva Award.

“It’s no secret that when Tiro became a single father 15 years ago, he had no idea about children or how to raise one,” reads the synopsis for Karkäinen’s seventh film set in a small Finnish village. Over the years, he did what he could to teach his son Henry how to be a strong, independent man, including how to use guns and repair cars. “However, when one day Henry wants to settle down with his girlfriend and asks his father to hand over the house to them, Teru realizes that he is the one to depend on. Loneliness is just around the corner, and he must stand alone while facing the universal fear of losing love.”

Written and directed by Karkäinen, The beauty of mistakes Features cinematography by Tony Pasanen. The editor is Otto Heikola. This doc comes from producer Juha Löppönen and executive producer Sami Jahnukainen, both of Mouka Filmi. Co-producers are Ove Rishøj Jensen and Magnus Gertten from Auto Images, Carsten Aanonsen from Indie Film, and Lisa Nyed from Film i Skåne.

The beauty of mistakes It was produced with production support by the Finnish Film Foundation, AVEK, the Church Media Fund, the Swedish Film Institute, the Norwegian Film Institute and the Nordisk Film & TV Fond, as well as in collaboration with YLE, ARTE GEIE and SVT. Rise and Shine handles international sales.

“After a period of artistic emptiness, I found my way back into filmmaking through Henry, his father Tiro, and their family, and it felt like coming home,” says Karkkainen. “By following their daily lives until Henry was 18, I wanted to rediscover the beauty in the little things, the sense of belonging that I had partially lost, and the strength needed to move through the pain. I look at them with the eyes of an observer, and slowly but surely, this void I felt began to be filled only with love.”

THR The film’s international trailer can now be exclusively revealed with English subtitles. Psychology, a gun, a kiss and talk about death are waiting for you. The same goes for explosives, foul language, and sloppy shaving. To be or not to be. This may be the question. But no doubt, you should check out the trailer The beauty of mistakes here.
