After some time to recover from Battle after battle In the whirlwind of awards season, Teyana Taylor heads to Tribeca for a talk presented through her lens: the Tribeca Chanel Women’s Filmmaker Program.
The event, organized as part of the Tribeca Storytellers Series, is set for June 7 at the Tribeca Festival Center in Spring Studios and will see Taylor delve into discussions about mentorship, creative leadership, and opportunities for storytellers.
“Joining the advisory committee through its lenses with Tribeca and Chanel was personal for me because I know how powerful it is to give women the space, support, and confidence to fully step into their vision,” Taylor said in a statement. “This is what ‘Through Her Lenses’ is all about – empowering women to tell bold, honest stories in their own voice. I’m proud to be part of something with Chanel that creates this kind of lasting impact.”
Since 2015, Through Her Lens: The Tribeca Chanel Women’s Filmmakers Program supports and mentors emerging filmmakers through annual workshop and development grants. The program’s advisory committee includes Jane Fonda, Patty Jenkins, Laura Karpman, Lucy Liu, A.V. Rockwell, Tessa Thompson, Kerry Washington and Olivia Wilde, along with Taylor.
“Teyana Taylor has never waited for permission to define herself,” said Jane Rosenthal, co-founder of the Tribeca Festival. “She has built her career on instinct, authenticity and fearless creativity.” “We are thrilled to welcome her to Tribeca and to the Advisory Committee through her lenses. I know her art and perspective will resonate with so many women and storytellers.”
The “Through Her Lens” workshop includes mentorship focusing on script-to-screen development, music composition, costume design, production and directing. Five participating film teams work with mentors to refine their projects and pitches, concluding with a final presentation in front of a judging panel of industry leaders. One team receives full funding to produce their short film with support from Tribeca Studios; The remaining four projects received development grants. Applications for the 2026 program are now open, and the 11th annual workshop will be held in September.
Since its inception, Through Her Lens has supported 50 short films and 100 emerging filmmakers, with 10 projects receiving full production funding and premiering at festivals including Tribeca, Sundance and TIFF; Nine out of 10 of the winning filmmakers identified as women of color, and nearly 70 percent of all participants identified as women or nonbinary filmmakers of color.
