After her breakup with Vijay Varma in early 2025, Tamannaah Bhatia shared a mature perspective on love, describing it as unconditional, “one-sided” and an “inside job” rather than a mutual relationship.
She expressed her desire to become a better life partner and find joy in companionship, saying she is working on herself. In a year-old conversation with Luc Coutinho, Tamannaah made a sharp distinction between love and relationships, saying that most people misunderstand the essence of both.“I think people confuse what love is and what a relationship is,” she said, adding that the moment expectations come into play, love risks becoming a “deal.”“The minute you have expectations and want people to do what you want them to do, it’s just business… just a transaction,” she said.
“Love should be unconditional”
Tamanna stressed that love in its purest form cannot be conditional. According to her, it is an emotion that arises within an individual and not something that depends on the actions of another person.“Love is an internal function. It’s how you feel about someone,” she explained, adding that two people can love each other individually, but that doesn’t mean the relationship itself defines love.

Let people develop
One of the most notable takeaways from the interview is her belief that love should allow for freedom and growth.“If I have to love someone, I have to let him be free. You don’t love by projecting your thoughts onto that person,” she said. She also acknowledged that people are constantly evolving, and that loving someone means embracing every version of them.“You have to love the versions that come out,” she added.
“You can love more than once”
Tamannaah broke the traditional cinematic idea of “one true love,” as Tamannaah stated that love is not limited to one experience. She said: “Love is not something that happens only once… It can happen several times depending on what you decide,” noting that feelings arise internally, and are not dictated by external forces.
