Ahead of the 2026 SXSW Film Festival, Yana Aliata Reelinga featured film in the 2025 festival’s feature film competition, is being distributed.

Future Female Film, powered by Neon, will be released Reeling on March 18 at the Los Feliz American Cinematheque in Los Angeles, after which a national expansion will follow. Tribeca Films will handle digital distribution.

Set in Ohio during a Christmas, Ryan struggles to cope with his family and friends after a life-altering accident leaves him with lost memories. As the party continues, Ryan reveals the memory that changed everything for him.

Aliata, who makes her directorial debut with the film, co-wrote the screenplay with Amy Miner. Jack Forbes produced the film. Executive producers are Werner Herzog, Thomas Kusasa and Nicole McNaughton.

Reeling It is a bold and original family story full of beautiful tension that touches your heart deeply; “It’s everything we at Future of Film is Female wanted in a debut feature film, and it’s an honor to be a part of bringing it to audiences in theaters,” Karen Coleman, executive director of Future of Film is Female, said in a statement.

“This film came from a very personal place as a director who grew up on Oahu. Crafting a psychological family drama as my first feature was exciting and deeply meaningful,” Aliata said. “Making the future of film female, releasing Tribeca Films to the world and promoting local Hawaiian stories is definitely a win!”
