Survival horror film ’99 Nights in the Forest’ is in the works at 20th Century Studios

20y Century Studios is jumping into the video game adaptation business.

Under competitive conditions, 20th Century acquired the theatrical film rights to the popular game 99 nights in the woods, It is developed by Grandma’s Favorite Games and is hosted on Roblox. This is the first time the department has tackled a feature adaptation of a video game, which has emerged as a major source for Hollywood films and series, under Disney’s ownership.

There is no writer or director attached at this point nor any producers involved. Game developers Alec Kieft, Matthew Huffton, and Cameron Angland will serve as executive producers.

99 nights It is a survival game where players must endure 99 nights in a haunted forest while trying to rescue four lost children and fight evil creatures that inhabit the deep forest.

The game isn’t even a year old, and it’s already the seventh most played game of all time on Roblox, per 20y century, boasting nearly 26 billion lifetime visits and a player rating of 90.6%. The game has 14.2 million of the highest number of players ever, ranking first. 3 on the Roblox platform, often hosting hundreds of thousands of concurrent players.

“The team at Grandma’s Favorite Games are exactly the kind of bold, inventive creators we love working with at 20th Century Studios, with world-building ideas that feel innately cinematic,” said the streamer from Disney and 20th Century Studios.y Century Studios president David Greenbaum said in a statement. “99 Nights in the Forest has already connected with millions of players around the world, and we’re excited to build on that foundation for fans everywhere.”

While 20th Century produced films based on video games when it was owned by Fox, films like Professional killer and Assassin’s CreedIt is believed to be the first major title to be handled since the Disney acquisition. The department is chaired by Greenbaum and 20th Century Chairman Steve Asbell.

“Growing up, Disney and 20th century films were a huge part of our childhoods, so collaborating with such legendary and enduring studios seems surreal,” the game’s creators said in a statement. “We are excited to explore the world 99 nights in the woods On a broader stage and to create some scares in a whole new medium.

CEO JR Young will oversee the 20th Century Studios project. The company’s Michelle Camey co-wrote the rights deal.
