StudioCanal has acquired international sales rights to Guillermo del Toro’s Oscar-winning film Pan’s maze.

Comes as Pan’s maze It returns to the Cannes Film Festival nearly twenty years after its historic reception in 2006. The masterpiece became del Toro’s first Oscar-nominated film, with six nominations, including Best Original Screenplay and Best Foreign Language Film.

The film received three Academy Awards (for Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, and Best Makeup Design), and won more than 100 international awards, including three BAFTA Awards and seven Goyas Awards.

The restored version, presented by Cineverse, will premiere as part of the Cannes Classics collection, at the Théâtre Debussy, in the presence of del Toro on Tuesday.

The deal was negotiated by Falco Jan, vice president of editorial and development library, with Del Toro’s company Necropia to expand its catalog. Mexican exhibition company Cinépolis will lead theatrical distribution in Mexico and across Latin America for the film’s re-release.

StudioCanal will release its new 4K restoration later this year and is planning a series of theatrical re-releases in key territories, such as Germany, the UK, France, Benelux and Australia this fall.
