Stranger Things star Gaten Matarazzo will make his stage debut in London with Jonathan Larson's musical Rent.

Gaten Matarazzo, the Stranger Things star who won hearts as Dustin Henderson, will be heading straight to Broadway after starring in the beloved series. In his London stage debut, the 23-year-old has signed on for a thrilling revival of Jonathan Larson’s musical Rent, which will premiere in the West End in the fall.

Gaten Matarazzo’s latest musical work

Scheduled to premiere on 8 October 2026, following their theatrical runs from 26 September, the iconic musical group will be getting a brand new production. This revival will be directed by Luke Sheppard, who recently won an Olivier Award from the London Theater Society for his work on “Paddington: The Musical.”Sophie Friedman, the musical’s producer, said she’s well aware of the demographics after the original film’s premiere 30 years ago.

Reflecting on her excitement, she said: “And how excited they will be to see Gaten on stage. And to be presenting something like Rent here in the UK is so exciting. It will attract a whole new audience, as our play did, and that feels really special,” according to Deadline.

About Gaten Matarazzo’s Broadway career

While Gaten Matarazzo may have gotten the spotlight after starring in the supernatural thriller series, he’s very familiar with Broadway. At age 9, he made his stage debut in “Priscilla, Queen of the Desert,” according to Broadway Direct. He moved into musical theater and played Gavroche in the 2014 revival of Les Misérables. After starring in the 2019 production of Into the Woods as Jack, he played Jared in Dear Evan Hansen in 2022.

That same year, he starred in Parade in New York City, and more recently played Tobias in the 2024 revival of Sweeney Todd.
