Shaolin Soccer star Stephen Chow has an indelible reputation through his action films in popular culture. The 64-year-old actor is marking his return to international cinema after securing rights outside mainland China with a brand new film, mixing football and martial arts.

After rolling the cameras as director, Stephen Chow returns with an action comedy to the silver screen. “Kung Fu Soccer” revolves around the Emei women’s soccer team, who are ready to fight for the “invincible supreme trophy,” according to Variety.
The film stars Zhang Xiaofei, Dilraba Dilmurat and Lai Zhang Yixing, and is open to the global market in various languages, including English, Japanese, Thai, Cantonese, Korean and Mandarin.
However, the release date has not yet been announced by the production team. “Most soccer movies ask: ‘Can they win the game?’ A Stephen Chow film asks: ‘Can they win the game while breaking the laws of physics?’” “That’s the magic of Kung Fu Soccer — a movie that blends fantasy, action, heart and comedy in a way that only Chow can,” Joyce Lee, the production team’s executive director, said in the statement, adding that the actor and director is one of the rare gems who have entertained audiences across cultures for decades.
