Schwartz is with the upcoming sequel to Space balls.
The studio announced Friday that Amazon MGM Studios’ follow-up feature to the original 1987 film is set to hit theaters wide on April 23, 2027. Mel Brooks, Rick Moranis, Daphne Zuniga, Bill Pullman, and George Weiner reprise their roles from the first film, while newcomers to the cast include Josh Gad, Keke Palmer, Lewis Pullman, and Anthony Carrigan.
Josh Greenbaum directs the comedy from a screenplay by Gad, Benji Samet and Dan Hernandez. Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Jeb Brody are producing the film for Imagine Entertainment, along with Gadd, Brooks, Greenbaum and Kevin Salter.
Plot details and official title to follow star wars-The impersonation feature is not shared yet.

It was originally released by MGM in 1987 – a decade after George Lucas’s sci-fi classic star wars It debuted to become a culture smash – Space balls It starred Pullman, Moranis, Zuniga, Weiner, and John Candy, as well as a voice role for Joan Rivers in the C-3P0 spoof. Brooks directed the film, which grossed $38.1 million at the box office before becoming a fan favorite.
During the summer of 2024, Gad teased the sequel in an Instagram post. “I just turned in a movie script that I think might be the funniest and best thing I’ve ever worked on and I’m so excited,” Gad captioned the post at the time. He added that working with Summitt and Hernandez “was heaven on Earth and many other planets as well. Love you guys!”
Gad took to Instagram on Friday to confirm the release date with the caption: “May April 23, 2027 be with you!!!”
