Sonakshi Sinha may have been dealing with ‘reverse nepotism’ in her latest film ‘The System’, but the actress says she has never witnessed anything similar in her real life despite being the daughter of veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha.In Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari’s courtroom drama on Prime Video India, Sonakshi plays a young lawyer and the daughter of a famous lawyer, portrayed by Ashutosh Gowariker. In the film, her father challenges her to win ten consecutive cases as a prosecutor before she becomes a partner in his law firm.At one point, her character asks: “What is this reverse nepotism?”However, speaking to SCREEN, Sonakshi shared that her real-life equation with her father was much more encouraging and supportive.
“He always had my back.”
Talking about the freedom she had while growing up, Sonakshi Sinha said that her father always allowed her to make her own choices.“My father always gave me the freedom to choose my path, ever since I was studying fashion design. This was the path I chose for myself. Life chose another path for me. This is a different story,” she said.The actress added that her father’s unwavering support was one of her greatest strengths.
“He’s always been a silent supporter. No matter what happens, he’ll have my back. To have that kind of strength and support from your father means a lot to a girl in today’s day and age.”
“Go and do what you have to do”
Unlike the demanding father figure portrayed in The System, Sonakshi says Shatrughan Sinha was not overly strict in her career decisions.“Go and do what you want, and I know you will do well,” she recalled, sharing the advice he gave her after getting into films.Sonakshi admitted that those words gave her the ‘wings’ and confidence to move forward with her career independently.She also described her father as softer than his larger-than-life public image suggested.“My father is very soft,” she said, laughing. “He looks tough and does all this ‘khamosh, vamosh, and everything’, but he’s so soft.”
“Tell me the honest truth”
Meanwhile, the actress said that her father was never shy about giving honest comments whenever it was necessary.“He tells me where it needs to be. Everyone knows that about my dad because he’s so honest and transparent, and he says it when he needs to say it. So, I always appreciate it when he comes to me with the honest, honest truth.”Despite being a part of the film industry, Sonakshi and Shatrughan Sinha have appeared together on screen only once – in the song ‘Rafta Rafta Medley’ from Yamla Pagla Deewana: Phir Se.
