Sinners Actress Jamie Lawson candidly shared her thoughts on last weekend’s incident at the BAFTA Awards while speaking to Hollywood Reporter On the red carpet for the NAACP Image Awards last night.
“I’ll first say a big shout out to Mike and Delroy; let’s continue to honor them for the way they handled this in real time,” Lawson said of Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo after guest John Davidson, who suffers from Tourette’s syndrome, shouted at them while they were on stage to present at the British Awards. “The grace and dignity they played with and the whole home team and everyone who was there played really well.
“I think the events that occurred this weekend revealed several things,” Lawson continued. “Institutionally, we still don’t understand what inclusion is. Just because you invite someone into a space, but you don’t provide the resources to keep them and everyone else in that room safe by being there, that’s not inclusion. That’s exploitation.”
She said of Davidson: “This man’s disability was taken advantage of that night, leading to numerous crimes being committed. This is BAFTA’s fault. And then, for the BBC to broadcast what they broadcast is negligent – not like some random incident – a real lack of concern was exercised for these two black men.”
She continued: “And we know that the BBC knows how to care about what it cares about because it has censored a bunch of other programs.” [words]. They even go so far as to make sure that some things are not topics of conversation. They censored Akinola [Davies Jr. ]Manager’s word My father’s shadowIt’s a great movie, by the way. So I censored one black man. She failed to protect two others, and our production designer, Hannah [Beachler]. You do not care about our dignity and humanity. You want to celebrate our art, but you won’t protect it [us]. That’s why we celebrate Sinners. That’s why we celebrate Ryan [Coogler]. That’s why we go to the NAACP because those are the places where we felt safe, where we felt safe.
During the NAACP Image Awards, Battle after battle Star Regina Hall asked the audience to “take a moment” to show love to Jordan and Lindo, who then received a round of loud applause from those in attendance.
Lindo also spoke about the incident for the first time while taking the stage to introduce the show with Coogler, saying, “I would just like to say on the record, we appreciate all the support and love that we’ve shown in the wake of what happened last weekend. It means a lot to us,” adding that the moment was “a classic case of something that can be very negative becoming very positive.”
