Amid the growing buzz around Bastian allegedly clocking Rs 2-3 crore in daily turnover, actor and co-owner Shilpa Shetty along with restaurateur Ranjit Bindra addressed the speculations. In a recent conversation, the duo talked about the brand’s journey, their partnership, and their viral revenue claims.Shilpa joined Bastian in 2019 and currently holds a 50 percent stake in the hospitality brand.
From client to co-owner
Shilpa revealed that she first entered Bastian in 2016 as a regular restaurant. She told Curly Tales, “I am very happy to have met Ranjit. I met him in Bastian when I came there as a client in 2016. That’s when we started talking, and he told me that he was opening another outlet in Worli, which has also become a special place. But I want to share the story behind it – I was not convinced at all because that location was just a barren space at that time.”
He was simply convinced that he would turn it into a top-notch restaurant.
We opened during Covid, but this is where the Bastian brand really took shape. Today, we have eight restaurants under four different brands under Bastian’s management. What started as an 80-seater restaurant in Bandra, has now expanded to eight outlets across four sectors.
“It was my lucky charm.”
Ranjit said Shilpa’s presence changed the energy of the brand.“She had a different energy. When I talked to her, there was always a positive vibe.
I always hoped that Shilpa would become a part of Bastian, and I was right. “It was my lucky charm.”Regarding celebrity support, he added: “Celebrity is important because you get fame through that. It helps people recognize you everywhere. Shilpa plays that role tremendously. Her inputs always matter to me. She is like a big sister to me, so whatever she says, I just follow her.”He also revealed that it took Bastian nearly four years to turn a profit.

Demanding Rs 2-3 crore
When asked about reports that Bastian earns Rs 2-3 crore daily, Ranjit replied: “I hope it’s true. I’m sure one day it will be true, so let’s keep our fingers crossed.”The claim arose after author Shobhaa De said in Mojo Story, “One restaurant in Mumbai has a turnover of Rs 2-3 crore per night. On a slow night, the turnover is Rs 2 crore and on weekends it is Rs 3 crore. I walked into this restaurant to see it for myself because when I heard these numbers…
I said that couldn’t be true. When Barkha Dutt asked her which restaurant she was going to, Shobha replied: “It’s Bastian. It’s the new Bastian. It’s up there. It’s 21,000 square feet, it’s not even real. You walk in there and feel ‘Where am I?’ You have a 360-degree view of the city.”
She further stated: “They are doing two seatings, each holding 700 people and covering 1,400 people in one night. They have a queue of people waiting downstairs on the road in Dadar, which is like the bastion of conservative old Maharashtra in Mumbai. There are people coming in Lamborghinis and Aston Martins. You name it. Who are these people? I have no idea.”While the numbers continue to spark controversy, Shilpa and Ranjit stress that growth has been steady — and that the best, perhaps, is yet to come.
