Sharib Hashemi's wife, Nasreen Hashemi, recalls being diagnosed with oral cancer and now suffering her sixth relapse: 'He never left my side'

Sharib Hashmi and his wife Nasreen Hashmi recently spoke about their emotional battle with cancer and how the journey has strengthened their relationship over the years.Speaking to Hauterrfly, Nisreen revealed that she was first diagnosed with oral cancer in 2018, around the same time that Sharib’s career took a major boom with The Family Man.

“He came home halfway after realizing my reports were due.”

Recalling the day she received the diagnosis, Nisreen said Sharib was heading with The Family Man team for lunch when she returned home after collecting the biopsy reports.“I remember that day very clearly. I picked my daughter up from school and came home with the reports. He was leaving with the Family Man team for lunch,” she said.Nisreen added that she encouraged him to go ahead with his plans, but Sharib suddenly remembered midway that her medical reports were due that day.“He came home halfway after realizing my reports were supposed to arrive that day. That’s when I told him it was cancer. He was completely devastated, while I was the one who told him not to worry because everything would be fine,” she recalls.

Nisreen Hashemi reveals that the cancer has relapsed six times

Nisreen added that she has undergone five surgeries so far and is currently suffering from the sixth relapse.“My cancer is very aggressive in nature, which is why it keeps relapsing.

“This is the sixth time now, and this time it has spread more.”Despite repeated setbacks, the couple said they learned to fight the disease with strength and positivity.Shurrab praised his wife’s steadfastness and admitted that her courage had become the family’s greatest source of strength during difficult times.“The way she handled it gave us all courage. Slowly, we all became fighters with her,” the actor said.

Nisreen also spoke emotionally about Sharib’s unwavering support throughout her treatment journey.“He never left my side. No matter how busy he was filming or working, he somehow managed to reach the hospital,” she said.She added that Sharib would sit next to her for hours in the hospital and refused to leave even when others suggested that he go home and rest.“It always gave me peace to know he was there,” she said.Nisreen also revealed that Sharib was able to manage all of his treatment expenses without borrowing money from anyone, despite the financial pressures that accompanied long-term cancer treatment.“Every year or a year and a half, huge sums of money go to treatment,” she said. “But he managed everything without taking out a single loan, and that means a lot to me.”

“Love was the only constant”

The couple also talked about how the health battle changed their relationship and strengthened their emotional bond.“We don’t say ‘I love you’ to each other anymore because there’s no need for that,” Nisreen said, laughing.The couple explained that simple gestures like hugging before leaving the house, checking on each other during the day, and being quietly there for each other have now become their love language.“Most of the time, we didn’t really have money,” Sharib added. “But love was the only constant.”Sharib Hashmi is best known for playing the role of JK Talpade in The Family Man starring Manoj Bajpayee. Over the years, the actor has received praise for his performances in films and web series including Slumdog Millionaire, Badmashiyaan and Asur.
