Allahabad High Court directs SHO Sarnath to file counter affidavit
According to Hindustan Times, the Allahabad High Court directed both the accused to file their replies to the petition. In addition, the Sarnath station house officer was asked to file a counter affidavit, with the court explaining that failure to comply would result in the officer being summoned to appear in person before the court on May 22.
What did the police say when Akanksha Dubey’s body was found?
When the actress’s body was first discovered in a hotel in Varanasi’s Sarnath area in 2023, police were cautious about drawing any firm conclusions.
While initial findings seem to point in the direction of suicide, officials clarified that nothing can be confirmed until a post-mortem report is issued. “The prima facie report suggests it may be a case of suicide. But we have to wait for the post-mortem report to ascertain the cause of death,” an official said at the time.

In April 2023, police arrested Samar, who was widely reported to be the actress’ boyfriend, along with his brother.
The arrests came in the wake of a complaint filed by the actress’s family, alleging that she was subjected to harassment, criminal intimidation and incitement to suicide. Samar spent several months behind bars before being released on bail in November of that year. However, the case has remained under investigation, and as the Supreme Court’s latest development shows, it is far from closed.
