Samantha Ruth Prabhu has spoken candidly about the impact of fame on her life and career, admitting that early success made her “selfish” and deeply invested in the pursuit of stardom. Commenting on her journey, the actress said that the health-related break ultimately helped her reevaluate her priorities and gain a new perspective on life.In an interview with Gulty, Samantha recalled how overwhelming it was for a girl from a small town to suddenly experience enormous fame and admiration. She said the adulation she received in the early years of her career — with audiences cheering her on and calling her name — made her feel “addicted to the stardom game.”The actress revealed that she had done five hit films in one year, prompting many in the industry to describe her as having a “golden leg”.
She admitted that the label came with increased expectations and pressure to maintain her success streak.
“You’re getting too selfish as an actor.”
Speaking candidly about how success affected her mindset, Samantha said she reached a point where she thought her career would continue indefinitely.“You become so selfish as an actor that you don’t see an end, you refuse to see that there is an end,” she said.The actress shared that when she had to step away from work due to health concerns, she was at the peak of her career, constantly looking for more projects and opportunities.
But the unexpected stop became a turning point.According to Samantha, this break allowed her to finally acknowledge that professional life can have limits, a realization that dramatically changed the way she viewed work and life. She added that she promised herself during that period that if she returned to acting, she would abandon several old habits and patterns.
The wellness vacation brought a shift in perspective
The 39-year-old actress said her time away from the spotlight gave her a chance to reflect on what really matters.
It helped her detach from the relentless pursuit of success and approach her career with a healthier mindset.Samantha has previously spoken about her battle with autoimmune myositis, which led her to take a break from acting and focus on recovery.

On the professional front, Samantha will next be seen in Maa Inti Bangaram, which is slated to be her first theatrical release in 2026. Her most recent theatrical outings were Shaakuntalam and Kushi.In 2024, she starred alongside Varun Dhawan in the Prime Video series Citadel: Honey Bunny, created by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK. In 2025, she also appeared in Subham, a project she produced.The actor is currently shooting for Raj and DK Rakt Brahmand’s upcoming fantasy action series, which is scheduled to release in 2026.
